Adventure Awaits Geraldton

Encouraging West Australians to holiday in the Midwest is the aim of Visit Geraldton’s newest tourism marketing campaign.

The ‘Adventure Awaits’ promotion leverages Tourism WA’s narrative for the state – and focuses on placing Geraldton and the Midwest front of mind for those in the south who are looking to plan their next getaway!

The City of Greater Geraldton is reaching out to local tourism, retail and hospitality businesses in the Midwest, to create packages ready for when intrastate borders re-open.

City of Greater Geraldton Mayor Shane Van Styn said soon will be the perfect time for travellers to explore more of WA.

“I’m very passionate about the regional borders re-opening and when they do, we want people holidaying and visiting us here in the Midwest,” he said.

“Given interstate borders may remain closed for some time, we want to capitalise on West Aussies exploring their own backyard.

“We understand our tourism operators have been hit extremely hard from COVID-19 and this new campaign is part of our Economic Development Relief Recovery Strategy to help stimulate tourism and the economy in our region.

“We’re urging local businesses to join us on this journey, to attract people to our region and get the Midwest thriving!”

The in-depth marketing campaign will include a heavy focus on advertising and digital marketing targeting Perth and the south west.

Tourism, hospitality and retail businesses are encouraged to head to the Visit Geraldton website to register their business and packages.

“We are fostering a collaborative approach with tourism operators in the Midwest to deliver visitors with an all-encompassing experience of our region!” Mayor Van Styn added.

“As part of the campaign, we will have a dedicated platform for visitors to find packages in one place and to remove booking fees from third-parties so visitors can book directly through the business.

“We’re putting a big emphasis on supporting local businesses, including our current ‘Open for Business’ campaign and we hope the community will join us.”

Embracing Geraldton as the ‘hub’ to explore the whole of the Midwest region, there will be a heavy push on wildflowers, the Houtman Abrolhos Islands, Pink Lake and Kalbarri as a great place for your next school holiday trip - where adventure awaits.

Businesses can head to Visit Geraldton to register now.
