Sand nourishment works will commence on Whitehill Road to provide temporary protection to the beach.

Approximately 3000m3 of sand will be replaced on the beach from 21-28 April.

City of Greater Geraldton CEO Ken Diehm said coastal erosion is a national issue many areas face and the City were putting in measures to reduce the effects on the coastline.

“We undertook the same sand works about 12 months ago and it has proved successful,” he said.

Tenders have closed for the coastal hazard risk management and adaptation planning (CHRMAP) process and consultants will be investigating a permanent solution for the area.

“We have been working for some time on the erosion issues at Drummond Cove and we are confident a long-term solution will soon be identified,” Mr Diehm said.

“It is about protecting our coastline and essential community infrastructure well into the future.

“We have made a commitment to our community and we are taking the necessary steps to ensure the best outcome.”

Works on Whitehill Road will commence on Friday 21 April. Working hours will be between the hours of 7.00am to 5.00pm for duration of the works.

The City apologises for any inconvenience these works may cause. For further information on these works, contact the City on 9956 6600 or email council@cgg.wa.gov.au.
