The City of Greater Geraldton is looking for students undertaking a degree in their 2nd, 3rd or 4th year in Civil Engineering for an immediate start.

About the position:

The University Engineer provides engineering support across the Infrastructure Services department, to provide engineering asset solutions to all areas of engineering civil infrastructure in the City of Greater Geraldton, including traffic engineering investigations, asset management, lighting, stormwater drainage and engineering support to open space projects. Projects range from initial investigation, planning, design, construction and maintenance including reconstruction and renewal of infrastructure assets, upgrades, infrastructure planning and modelling.

The position is offered on a six-month basis to complement the studies of the successful applicant until completion of the student's university degree.

Key accountabilities:

  • Provide technical civil engineering support to the Infrastructure Services department.
  • Carry out site inspections and risk assessments, conduct engineering investigations and provide recommendations.
  • Undertake and/or manage condition assessment activities for City of Greater Geraldton infrastructure assets including roads, pathways, drainage, lighting, and parks. 
  • Keep pace with industry trends and anticipating future needs of customers including innovations in infrastructure asset solutions, engineering standards and industry practise.
  • Prepare procedures, standards and specifications to ensure safety, quality and efficiency is achieved and compliance with legislative and City standards are met.

Position requirements:

The successful applicant must be a current student, having commenced a Degree in Civil Engineering and completed at least one (1) year of studies.

Applicants must have the right to work in Australia - sponsorship is not offered for this position.

Completion of a pre-employment medical including alcohol and other substances testing is required of all positions at the City.

Remuneration and benefits:

A salary starting from $60,646 per annum pro rata or $30.6914 per hour will be offered dependent on knowledge, skills, experience and qualifications.
