About the position:

The Community Development Officer contributes to the creation of a vibrant, sustainable and resilient community through identifying and building on community assets and strengths and through the effective delivery of a range of community development initiatives. Key areas of responsibility will include implementing the City of Greater Geraldton’s Disability Access and Inclusion Plan (DAIP), supporting non-sporting clubs and associations to develop their governance structures and assisting other team members within the community development branch including youth, seniors, arts and culture and Aboriginal development to implement their strategies and action plans.

This full time position is offered as a ten month fixed term contract, until 28 April 2022.

Key accountabilities:

  • Oversee the City of Greater Geraldton’s Disability Access and Inclusion Plan (DAIP).
  • Support the development and growth of non-sporting clubs and associations in the City of Greater Geraldton.
  • Develop and nurture relationships with key stakeholders in the community development sector in the region to ensure community assets and strengths are fully understood and built upon.
  • Establish and maintain strong relationships with non-sporting clubs and associations representing members of the culturally and linguistically diverse (CaLD) community and provide assistance to these non-sporting clubs and associations in their ongoing capacity building and their delivery of key events.

Position requirements:

Ideally, the successful applicant will have a degree in Community Development and previous experience or lesser qualification with significant experience working within a community development discipline and experience in the development and implementation of methods to engage with the community and develop effective working relationships. Additionally, this position requires experience coordinating and project managing community events.

Completion of a pre-employment medical including alcohol and other substances testing is required of all positions at the City.

Remuneration and benefits:

A salary starting from $74,739 per annum or $37.82 per hour will be offered dependent on knowledge, skills, experience and qualifications.
