About the position:

The full time permanent position of Aboriginal Engagement Officer will be responsible for building and strengthening sustainable relationships between the City of Greater Geraldton and the Aboriginal community and organisations. The position is responsible for promoting Aboriginal community and cultural development projects, awareness and appreciation of Aboriginal culture within the organisation and the wider community.

Key accountabilities:

  • Support the Coordinator Community & Cultural Development to undertake research and prepare reports relevant to identified Aboriginal and community focused projects, in particular, the preparation and implementation of the 2020 to 2025 Reconciliation Action Plan.
  • Support and assist the ongoing evaluation of community partnerships and strategies to ensure continuous improvement of consultation and service delivery.
  • Develop, review and implement Aboriginal strategic plans and policies for the City of Greater Geraldton.
  • Represent the City of Greater Geraldton and contribute to discussions on relevant networks and appropriate meetings and activities.
  • Identify, develop, nurture and maintain strategic partnerships with key stakeholders and employ a collaborative approach to positive community outcomes by encouraging local involvement and action.

Position requirements:

The successful applicant will ideally have a degree in Aboriginal Studies, Social Sciences or Community Development or lesser qualification with significant experience. Additionally, the position requires demonstrated experience in developing and implementing community development programs, which include liaising with the Aboriginal Community, comprehensive knowledge of issues relating to Aboriginal culture and community, and comprehensive written, verbal and non-verbal communication skills.

Completion of a pre-employment medical including alcohol and other substances testing is required of all positions at the City.

Remuneration and benefits:

A salary starting from $74,739 per annum or $37.82 per hour will be offered dependent on knowledge, skills, experience and qualifications.
