Community & Places > Our Liveable Community

We are proud of our home and of the future we are working with our community to create. The City has achieved international recognition for several projects in awards which are well respected on the global stage.

Geraldton has been shortlisted as a finalist for the 2011 LIVCOM Awards, a United Nations backed competition to find the most liveable community on the planet.

The LIVCOM Awards was initiated in 1997 and is the only international competition judged on international best practice for managing the environment while improving resident’s quality of life by creating “liveable communities”.

The City of Greater Geraldton’s submission highlighted our strong sense of community and community participation and empowerment through the 2029 and Beyond project, education and health services, diverse employment opportunities, cultural experiences and a relaxed, family friendly lifestyle all of which is located in a pristine coastal environment.

The City made its final presentation to the judges in Songpa, South Korea in October 2011.

Update: The City of Greater Geraldton received a Silver Assessment Award for the Liveability 30,00 - 70,000 people category and was a global winner of the Community Empowerment and Engagement Award.
