Australia Day Awards 2012 - Nomination and Judging Process
Guidelines and Criteria
The Australia Day Council of Western Australia (ADCWA) provides three awards each year for presentation in each local government area. Each year two local citizens and one local community group in each local government area is eligible for Premier’s Australia Day Active Citizenship Awards.
The recipients are selected from people and groups who have made a noteworthy contribution during the current year, or given outstanding service to the local community over a number of years through active involvement.
To recognise the achievements of youth under the age of 21 years in the community, the City of Greater Geraldton established the Young Achiever of the Year award. Nominations are selected from youth who have made a noteworthy contribution to the community during the current year or over a number of years.
Nomination Process
The City of Greater Geraldton receives nominations for the awards from the community.
Selection Criteria
The winners have shown active citizenship and:
- Significant contribution to the local community
- Demonstrated leadership on a community issue resulting in the enhancement of community life
- A significant initiative which has brought about positive change and added value to community life.
- Inspiring qualities as a role model for the community.
Judging Process
The judging panel was made up of the 2011 City of Greater Geraldton winners and the chairperson of the Australia Day Committee.
As the City of Greater Geraldton has two major locations, awards will be made to one winners from each category from Geraldton (and immediate surrounds) and Mullewa.
The judges’ decision will be final and no correspondence will be entered into by the Australia Day Council of Western Australia.
Presentation of Awards
Awards will be presented on Thursday 26 January 2012 at the Australia Day celebrations at Stow Gardens, Foreshore Geraldton commencing at 8.30am.
Award presentations in Mullewa will be on Thursday 26 January 2012 as part of the breakfast celebrations.
