Skateboarding, scooter and BMX lovers will have a great opportunity this Sunday, August 26, when Perth-based Freestyle Now will be hosting another round of Freestyle Now Western Australian Skatepark Series.

Sponsored by the Geraldton PCYC, the competition will be open to all ages in scooter, skate board and Freestyle BMX at the Wonthella Skate Park.

Registrations for the event are free and are available to apply at 10am - noon on the day competitions will start at noon throughout to 5pm.

Manager Geraldton PCYC, Jill Bourke, said Freestyle Now are a professional team and are always welcomed in Geraldton.

“Freestyle Now will be coordinating the competition and registrations, they will be providing mentoring to the young people in various techniques of skateboarding and freestyle BMX,” she said.

“PCYC has worked hard to fundraise money to support this event for the young people, this weekend’s competition will be Freestyle Now’s fifth trip to Geraldton in the last four years.”

In the past, PCYC has managed to secure funding for such events through the Department for Communities, Department of Sport and Recreation and the City of Greater Geraldton.

Ms Bourke said PCYC ia a registered Charity organisation which always relies on the community, government and local government to support their events for young people.

“Having support for initiatives for young people and ideally events like this held once every three months would be fantastic,” she said.

“With the Freestyle Now skate events, it promotes community engagement and participation from a cohort of young people who do not usually engage in mainstream sport.”

“The young people look forward to these skate events with great enthusiasm and there is always a noticeable and positive buzz in the neighbourhood leading up to the events.”

Food and drinks will be on sale during the day, where funds will go towards the local Charity for Youth – Geraldton PCYC to help support more events like this.
