WELCOME TO COUNTRY

The past is never really forgotten as it is embedded in the very fabric of today’s society

We all look to the future with trepidation but boast about the past endeavours

The past is scarred by many mistakes but we never seem to learn from them

Why is it that we are too quick to judge someone on their faults but are too slow in giving positive encouragement.

The rich diversity of this community is a powerful tool and if it is harnessed in a positive way we can showcase this wonderful City and the Midwest but we need to work together irrespective of cultural differences

We need to reconcile our differences

Reconciliation will only work if each and every one of us, from the political arena, to the grass roots level, work towards and focus upon a vision of a United Community.

We all need to come together as a UNITED, STRONG COMMUNITY, COMMITTED to sharing and caring for country and each other.

Let’s lead by example and teach our future generations about respect and reconciliation which has to start at home.

Let’s have respect for ourselves, our elders, our family and our friends

Let’s welcome the diversity and strength of this community of which we all belong to.

Today marks a new beginning for the City of Geraldton-Greenough.

As a daughter of this land and a Naaguja person
I welcome you to Yamaji country and acknowledge the many language groups that make up the Yamaji Nation.
