Rangers
The City has an experienced team of Rangers who can assist the community
in various matters including control and impounding of stray animals and the
enforcement of local laws as approved by the City of Geraldton-Greenough or
by statutory delegation.

Our Rangers also perform firebreak and property inspections within the
district to ensure compliance with the Bush Fire Act, Regulations and
By-Laws relating to Firebreaks and where appropriate issue warning and
infringement notices to offending landowners.
Serve as Fire Prevention Officer - make recommendations in liaison with the
Bush Fires Service on Fire Control Facilities required in new rural
subdivisions.
- Perform patrols of all areas of the district and where appropriate
impound dogs;
- Issue warnings and infringement notices on offending dog owners;
- Investigate dog attacks on persons and other animals, and any other
matters under the Dog Act 1976;
- Manage the dog pound including the release or destruction of
impounded dogs; and
- Collection of pound fees and registration fees where appropriate.
Miscellaneous Local Laws and Acts
Enforce the Camping By-Law, the Vehicle Parking Local Law, the Litter
Act, and any other Acts and Local Laws in association with other Council
Officers. Make suggestions on improvements to Acts, Local Laws and Council
Policies.
Enforce the Control of Vehicles (Off-Road Areas) Act. Patrol on a routine
basis.
Enforce Council’s Foreshores, Rivers and Reserves Local Law. Patrol on a
routine basis, and perform security patrols of Council facilities as and
when required.
Dog Registration
When you move to the area do not forget to change the address for your
Dog Registration. Further to this…
1 Dogs to be registered from 12 weeks of age;
2 Proof of sterilisation/Pensioner concession card must be
shown upon initial registration to receive discounted rates;
3 Council must be notified immediately upon any change in
particulars regarding the dog registration (ie deceased dog, given away,
change of address etc);
4 In addition to licence tag, the name and address must be
legibly inscribed on or attached to the collar worn by the dog, to assist in
locating
the owner;
5 Dog registrations can be transferred from any local
council within WA with no charge payable unless registration is due.
Presentation of the
previous receipt will assist in the transfer, but
not essential;
6 If your dog loses it’s tag, contact the City Office and
we will replace it for a fee of $1.10;
7 Fees for registration: Un-sterilised dogs: $30 for 1
year, $75 for 3 years; Sterilised dogs: $10 for 1 year, $18 for 3 years.
Pensioners receive
a 50% discount off these rates upon presentation
of their card;
8 The maximum number of dogs permitted at any given time
on a property is two. Council may give permission for a third dog, depending
on
neighbours’ response. If a puppy is
acquired to replace an old dog that has not long to live, this is usually
acceptable, unless neighbours
object.
9 Dogs must be kept on a leash at all times when in a
Public place.
DOG DECLARATION
If you no longer have the dog/s mentioned on the registration paper/s,
under Section 16A of the Dog Act 1976 (as amended) ALL RELEVANT DETAILS MUST
be completed and return this declaration within 28 days to the City of
