THE FOOD SAFETY STARS PROGRAM

The Food Safety Stars Program will be introduced to Food Premises within the City of Geraldton-Greenough during July 2009.

The Food Safety Stars pilot initiative is a program which provides the community with an abbreviated summary of the routine food hygiene audit regularly carried out on Food premises within the City of Geraldton-Greenough by Environmental Health Officers. This program has been adopted from the City of Melville and has been very successful to date.

The program gives the City of Geraldton-Greenough 150 local food premises such as restaurants, cafes, takeaway outlets, school canteens and kitchen facilities a gold star rating out of five to indicate their food hygiene level.

The Food Safety Stars Awards allow consumers to see how well food restaurants and cafes in the City of Geraldton-Greenough are performing in food hygiene inspections and aims to improve consumer confidence whilst also encouraging high standards of food hygiene.

The Certificate awarded will demonstrate the standard of hygiene and cleanliness observed at the time of the inspection. The standard will be shown as a star rating (3-5 stars). See sample 5 Star Certificate.

The ratings indicate an VERY HIGH (five stars), HIGH STANDARD (four stars) or VERY GOOD STANDARD (three stars) of achievement in meeting the criteria such as hygiene, prevention of cross contamination, temperature control and food handling knowledge.

Food Safety Starts Award Criteria
