City of Geraldton-Greenough Local Bike Plan
The City of Geraldton-Greenough engaged Opus consultants to complete a Local Bike Plan; bringing together the cycling plans of each former council to form a single coherent plan setting out the strategic future direction of cycling in the City. A consolidated plan is necessary in order to ensure cycling initiatives and actions to meet the wider needs of the City are undertaken in a coordinated and logical manner.
Accordingly, the Bike Plan has taken national, state and local policies and strategies into account to ensure a consistent approach to the provision of cycling, and has developed a local vision: “A City where the community chooses to cycle.” The Local Bike Plan has now been developed to a draft level and the City is seeking feedback and comment on the plan.
Copies of the Bike Plan can be downloaded below, or by contacting Amanda Rushton at the City of Geraldton-Greenough on (08) 9956 6633.

City of Geraldton-Greenough Flags on the Foreshore
The installation of flags as a focal point for the Foreshore has been considered for some time. A proposed concept involves the installation of a 35m flagpole, which would fly the Australian Commonwealth flag. The Australian Commonwealth Flag would be central to four standard (9m) flagpoles. Four standard flag poles allowing for the Australian Commonwealth, Aboriginal, Torres Strait Island and City of Geraldton-Greenough flags to be flown were already planned. The inclusion of a fifth flagpole to fly the Australian Commonwealth flag will allow for the Western Australian flag to be flown.
Estimated costs for the proposed concepts of the 35m flagpole and all associated infrastructure including footings and lighting came to $77,000. The proposal is being considered in the context of savings identified within the Foreshore Project.
On 13 October 2009 Council resolved to defer a decision on the installation of flagpoles on the Foreshore for two ordinary council meetings, for the purpose of further community consultation.
Members of the community are invited to comment on the installation of flagpoles on the Foreshore via an online survey or written submission prior to 8am Friday 13 November 2009.
